Ep 08 - The Glow Down, August 2017: Featuring Hair Colour Queen Tracey Cunningham, Makeup Artist Mogul Joyce Bonelli and Backstage at Miss World Canada

Listen here!

In our second mid-month episode of The Glow Down by Breaking Beauty, we catch up with celebrity hair colourist extraordinaire Tracey Cunningham (who tends the manes of everyone from Khloe Kardashian to Emma Stone to Jennifer Lopez) about her secret weapons for her signature, super natural hair colour that always manages to look healthy no matter how much bleach is in the cup. We also get the scoop on the very famous helping hand who got Cunningham started in the beauty biz in the first place (guesses... guesses... anyone?)

Intern Emily chats with Joyce Bonelli who was in town to kick-off the Shoppers Drug Mart #MyBold makeup event. Bonelli's artistry may or may not have inspired the colour range for Kylie Lip Kits (her most famous client)—hear what she has to say on that front—plus, find out why Kim Kardashian FaceTimes Ms. Bonelli on the regs. Best of all, we get the major scoop on Ms. Boneill's own upcoming makeup line, planned for release in 2019.

Finally, the fabulous Emily reports from behind the scenes at the Miss World Canada Pageant -- talking with backstage makeup artist Jennifer Turner on how to get pageant-ready (including what NOT to do). And, she chats with Miss Manitoba Courtney Mandock to find out what it's like to compete in a beauty pageant in 2017. Because we know what you're thinking, whyyyyyyyy? Well, have a listen to what one contestant has to say, maybe she'll surprise you.

In our second episode, we speak to Canadian banker-turned-beautypeneur Nannette de Gaspé Beaubien, founder of Nannette de Gaspé dry masks. Find out why her breakthrough, Youth Revealed dry masks for face and body took home the Best Indie Beauty Brand Award at the 2017 Beauty Industry Awards; whether the new Uplift Revealed plumping dry masks for boobs and butt really work; and discover why Charlotte Tilbury's Instant Magic Dry Sheet Mask, made by the very same Quebec-based biotech company, is just the start of an industry-wide trend.

Jill and Carlene share their thoughts on trying the dry masks themselves as they chat with Nannette de Gaspé on everything from her most embarrassing beauty moment of all time to getting the exclusive scoop on what the founder has up her sleeve next (you're not going to want to miss this!) Plus, could this patented, biomimetic vector technology, be the answer to needle-free Botox, for real? The answer, in this episode.

But first... just what are dry masks anyway? They're fabrics that you wear on your face like sheet masks, but because they're waterless, goop-free and therefore non-sticky, they have little slits that you use to tuck them over your ears so that they stay in place. 94% all-natural ingredients such as Shea butter, camellia sinensis (green tea) seed oil and peptides—in comparison, Tilbury's are her own proprietary blend—are infused into the "techstile", and become activated by the warmth of your skin with gentle massaging (click here to see how to tap like a pro). Like sheet masks, you keep them on for about 15 minutes.

And finally, B-side alert!! We asked founder Nannette de Gaspé to spill her bag post-interview to find out which beauty products (besides her beloved dry mask) she can't live without, and what we found was perhaps unsurprisingly high-tech and rather luxe (clockwise from top left): Smashbox O-Gloss Intuitive Lip Gloss; M.A.C Powder Blush; M.A.C Paints Eye Shadow; Yves Saint Laurent Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Lip Stain; Guerlain Terracotta Original Bronzing Powder; M.A.C Patentpolish Lip Pencil; Nannette de Gaspé Youth Revealed Restorative Techstile Masque.
